High-Quality Craftsmanship
Since 1978

The story of Paterson’s begins with Ernie, who founded the business after working for a builder that specialised in home renovation. After beginning work in the joinery workshop, he completed his first few custom kitchens and knew they were something special.

After catching the bug, Ernie made the move back to Aberdeenshire and began making his own kitchens. While we now operate from our purpose-built warehouse in Oldmeldrum, we first began designing luxury kitchens from an old chicken shed that belonged to Ernie’s father.

The shed served us well until 1995 when we stretched our wings and moved from the shed to our current workshop. While our location has stayed the same for 27 years, we have made a few upgrades over the years.

Here at Paterson’s, we believe that the secret to producing consistently high-quality products is by merging modern technology with good old-fashioned quality craftsmanship. Our highly skilled team wields both decades of experience and cutting-edge technology to deliver stunning results.

We began cutting granite worktops in 2000 before moving onto quartz, taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facility which means that tops can be made immediately after templates are taken. With Paterson’s, our clients don’t have to wait for an outsourced supplier.

Very early into our granite adventure, Aberdeen architect Bill Cowie found out about our capabilities and began relying on us for more and more projects. We quickly grew as a business, completing work for large hotels, spas and private homes.

Meet Team Behind Paterson’s

Ernie

Ernie is our founder and the head of operations since 1978. Ernie began his career as a builders surveyor in Fraserburgh after graduating from Dundee College of Technology in the mid-70s. After a few years on the job, Ernie made the move to South Gloucestershire, where he learned new construction methods and joined the joiner’s workshop of another builder. There, he learned valuable skills that included sourcing high-quality raw materials and working directly with clients to bring their dream homes to life. During this time he worked on his first kitchens and picked up the passion that still runs through Paterson’s today.

Zak

Zak has been a vital member of Paterson’s team for 23 years and uses his decades of experience to achieve next-level results. After serving his apprenticeship as a cabinet maker, Zak has acquired CNC programming and operating skills to an incredibly high standard. As a registered Corian fabricator, he constructs kitchens as well as built-in and freestanding furniture to extremely exacting standards, always meeting our client's specifications. An expert in working with solid and veneered wood, laminates and of course Corian, he has also made many external entrance doors. In his spare time away from the workshop, Zak enjoys fishing, tinkering with cars, and taking on big DIY projects for his own home.

Andy

Andy has been with us since 1984 and is an integral part of our team. Serving his apprenticeship as a joiner, Andy takes charge of most of our on-site installations. With his keen eye for absolute alignment of the surfaces, his talent for accuracy allows for perfect fittings. Almost entirely self-taught over his decades of experience at Paterson’s, Andy also cuts and shapes high-quality granite and quartz worktops. Alongside his considerable range of skills, he is a larger-than-life personality and always has a good story to tell, though they are sometimes embellished! In his spare time, he also enjoys large DIY projects, as well as tinkering with static engines in his garage.

Harry

Harry is a final year apprentice and has worked with us previously for work experience before taking on his advanced craft course at Fraserburgh college, which he completed with flying colours. While a newer addition to the team, his hardworking nature and excellent capabilities have helped him in acquiring advanced skills. Harry constructs most of our dovetail drawers and is an excellent contribution to our projects. An animal lover, he spends his free time breeding pedigreed sheep and training his dog Fly to be a sheepdog.

Richard

Richard is the newest member of the Paterson’s team and is a talented cabinetmaker and installer. Entirely self-taught, Richard completed both workshops and on-site projects to the high Paterson’s standard. He has recently returned north from Kent, probably missing the local Doric dialect! In his time away from the workshop, Richard enjoys getting active outdoors, and his hobbies include cycling and wild swimming.
